PRESS RELEASE: Six attorneys in the New York offices of Kaufman Dolowich named 2013 Super Lawyers

Keith J. Gutstein, Jeffery A. Meyer and Brett A. Scher, partners in Kaufman Dolowich & Voluck’s Long Island office, in addition to Jennifer E. Sherven, of counsel, and Yale Pollack, associate, have been named 2013 New York Metro Super Lawyers. Kevin M. Mattessich, managing partner of the firm’s New York City office, has also been named to the list.  

Keith J. Gutstein concentrates his practice in labor and employment law on behalf of management and employment practices liability. Mr. Gutstein regularly counsels clients in all issues arising from the employer-employee relationship, including the defense of employment discrimination and sexual harassment matters, compliance with workplace regulations and employment statutes, wage and hour lawsuits, wage and hour audits initiated by both the New York State and United States Department of Labor, and investigations commenced by various civil rights agencies. He also develops corporate policies and procedures, employee handbooks, employment applications, employment contracts, and restrictive covenants for use by employees.

A graduate of New York Law School, Mr. Gutstein regularly represents employers in both New York State and Federal Court in employment discrimination, hostile work environment, sexual harassment and wage and hour litigation.

Jeffery A. Meyer’s practice includes the full spectrum of labor and employment law matters. He has substantial litigation experience defending federal and state wage and hour collective and class actions, as well as audits and investigations before the U.S. Department of Labor and New York State Department of Labor. Mr. Meyer represents corporate clients in a number of other labor and employment fields, in addition to advising employers in all matters related to union organizing and the collective bargaining process and frequently appears before the National Labor Relations Board.

Mr. Meyer received his juris doctor from St. Johns University School of Law, and previously worked at the National Football League Players Association.

Brett A. Scher’s legal practice includes litigation in the fields of professional liability, insurance coverage disputes, commercial matters, and securities laws claims. His professional liability practice includes complex attorney malpractice claims, corporate governance, real estate issues, and defense of class action claims under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, the Fair Credit Reporting Act and the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act.  He also represents accountants, actuaries, insurance brokers and agents, and third party administrators in errors and omissions claims.

A graduate of Fordham University School of Law, Mr. Scher has litigation experience on the trial and appellate levels throughout the United States in both state and federal courts.

Jennifer E. Sherven concentrates her practice in representing management in all areas of employment litigation, including discrimination, harassment, retaliation, and wage and hour violations. She represents clients in federal and state courts and in administrative proceedings in federal, state, and local human rights agencies. Ms. Sherven was a key member of the KD trial team that successfully defended their client against a sexual harassment suit brought by six plaintiffs in New York State Supreme Court – New York County.

A graduate of Boston University School of Law, Ms. Sherven also provides guidance to employers concerning workplace regulations, employment statutes, and the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (the “Affordable Care Act”).

Yale Pollack concentrates his practice in all aspects of labor and employment law on behalf of management, employment practices liability and professional liability. Mr. Pollack has experience representing clients in all phases of litigation in federal and state court, as well as in administrative proceedings in federal, state, and local human rights agencies.

Mr. Pollack received his juris doctor from Touro College, Jacob D. Fuchsberg Law Center, manga cum laude, where he served as Associate Editor of the Law Review and received the Center for Computer-Assisted Legal Instruction (CALI) Award in New York Practice and American Legal Studies.

Kevin M. Mattessich concentrates his practice in securities, fidelity and surety, commercial litigation and insurance law. Internationally recognized for his experience with commercial litigation, insurance coverage and monitoring matters, Mr. Mattessich represents insurers and their insureds in litigation involving Ponzi schemes, securities act violations, cyber risks, commodities and foreign exchange losses, insider trading, D&O liability and other corporate exposures.

A graduate of Catholic University of America Law School, Mr. Mattessich previously served in the Criminal Division of the Department of Justice, prosecuting white-collar fraud cases, and has also testified before the Judiciary Committee of the U.S. Senate.
